A Poet, A Musician and a Dancer Walk Into a Coffeehouse . . .
Keith Glassman Dance & Performance

"A Poet, A Musician and a Dancer Walk Into a Coffeehouse . . . " opens May 31, 2013 for three performances only in coffeehouses across Los Angeles. Poets Santa Perversa, Gloria Enedina Alvarez and Douglas Kearney, composer/musician Charles Sharp, and septuagenarian-performer Klyda Mahoney are choreographer Keith Glassman's collaborators on his latest round of coffee house performances. Glassman and Sharp (with his band) appear at all cafes and each site hosts one of the three exciting poets reading from their work. A diverse evening with a wide range of ideas and artistic genres, all performed in an informal and up-close-and-personal setting. Come, relax with a cuppa joe and explore the different perspectives!

Vox Sunday Showcase: Glassman, Rosen, Sternberg

Keith Glassman presents a trio of new dances incited by events that have occurred in coffeehouses across the globe. Accompanied by an original score by Daniel Corral, the works are performed by Rachel Lopez and Louie Cornejo: Beats (Espresso Romano) references pioneering modern dance, Beat Generation poetry and jazz percussion to create a "crazy" scene. Inspired by a 2011 suicide bomb attack in a Marrakech coffeehouse, Cornejo explores the commitment and dedication a man makes for his beliefs in Hereafter (Arabica Nus Nus). Funneled from Godard and Truffaut's cinematic styles, Wave (French Roast) is a cross dressed duet scored with a lilting landscape of accordion tonalities.
