Premiering new work by company veterans Louie Cornejo and Rachel Lopez and recent dances by Rebeca Hernandez and guest Laurel Jenkins, this eclectic program is a tantalizing mixture of movement, music, costume and space. Re-visiting cafes in Santa Monica, West LA and Hollywood, the ideas expressed will certainly give you something to talk about as you sip your latte and chew your snack. Funded by the city and county, performances are free!
A Poet, Some Musicians and 4 Dancers Walk Into a Coffeehouse . . .
“A Poet, Some Musicians and 4 Dancers Walk Into a Coffeehouse . . . ” opens May 16, 2014 for four performances only in coffeehouses across Los Angeles. Poets Pat Payne, Shy But Flyy, Aleida Rodriguez and Jen Hofer, composer/saxophonist Charles Sharp with Jeff Schwartz (bass) and Rich West (drums), and dancers Louie Cornejo, Rebeca Hernandez, Steve Irvin and Shoji Yamasaki are choreographer Keith Glassman’s collaborators on his latest round of coffee house performances. Glassman and Sharp (with his band) appear at all cafes and each site hosts one of the four exciting poets reading from their work. A diverse evening with a wide range of ideas and artistic genres, all performed in an informal and up-close-and-personal setting. Come, relax with a cuppa joe and feel the room shake, rattle and roll!

4 Headed Dance IV
Exploring off-center, high velocity movement and abandon, the African diaspora, the Thai experience in contemporary performance and down-home centenarians, 4 Headed Dance spans the globe in its 4th incarnation. The shared program of new work by distinctive local dance makers is fueled by Bradley Michaud/Method Contemporary Dance’s artists/athletes, Anna B. Scott’s ensemble of consummate thinking movers, Waewdao Sirisook’s take on cultural exoticism and Keith Glassman’s elegant home-grown portraiture. The evening will rattle your bones and shake the muscles in your brain. Come prepared to be moved!
